Sabayang Pagbigkas (Choral

Recitation): Sample Piece

with actions, and voicing

guide

Piece: Kalayaan by Pat Villafuerte

One of the activities in school that many

students have fortunately participated

in is the Choral Recitation or in Filipino

- Sabayang Pagbigkas. There is beauty

in listening to a poem spoken together

by a choir. Many appreciate the various

voice combinations and contrasts of high

/low, fast/slow tempo to bring out the full

meaning of the prose piece used.

Added interest are the choreography

and costume in addition to the audio

impact of the performance. It can also

be done as a classroom activity

for practice in pronunciation

and stress.

Here is a sample piece for Sabayang

Pagbigkas with simple actions and

voice variations. You can modify to

to make it more appealing.

The lines of the poem are numbered.

Found below is the guide in the

actions and voicing for your pupils.

Notes:

- always, to remember always to use

the voice of the voice group you

are assigned in speaking the

lines of the poem from start to

finish

- practice by voice group:

1 group for Low(baho or male voice)

  1 group for Medium(normal speaking

    voice)

1 group for High(tagming or like

    shrieking voice/female voice)

- have participants memorize their

     parts

- daily practice needed, practice

makes perfect - if not perfect,

    at least you're near there

- practice for entrance and exit

- practice for synchronization of

    movements

- pronounce words correctly

My first time with choral recitation,

I had the piece but no idea of the

actions and voicing. I hope this post

will somehow help as I attempt to

provide material for activities I

had so much difficulty with in

the past because of lack of

technology, so unlike the technology

we are enjoying today...

Good Luck! Wish you the best in

your endeavors!
