Matatag K-10 (Kinder to
Grade 10) Curriculum:

and intents for education

Salient Points:
π The revised curriculum for
Kinder to Grade 10 called
the Matatag K-10 has been recently
launched.
π It aims to decongest the current
K-12 curriculum.
π It reduces the number of learning
areas/competencies of the current
curriculum.
π It gives more focus on
the development of foundational skills
such as literacy, numeracy and
socio-emotional skills for
Kindergarten to Grade 3.
π It envisions balanced cognitive
demands in order for students to
obtain higher-order thinking
skills as the grade level
progresses.
π The bottom line is the K to 12
program has neither been abolished
nor been replaced by K-10 Matatag
Curriculum The Matatag K-10
is still a part of the K to 12 program.
π Just what is the meaning of matatag?
It means stable, steady, solid, firm,
established, unyielding, adamant
π Slogan of Matatag Curriculum:
Bansang Makabata, Batang
Makabansa meaning, that programs
and reforms are intentionally tailored
to produce competent, job-ready,
active, responsible, and patriotic
citizens.
π What are the benefits of the
Matatag K - 10 curriculum?
* arrest learning losses (mostly
attributed to the 2 year pandemic)
* reduce the number of learning
competencies by 70%
* revised the line up of subjects in
Grades 1 and 2 to improve early
mastery of numeracy and literacy
π What are the areas of Matatag
Learning? The learning areas in the
early levels were cut from seven to
five to include:
πLanguage
πReading and Literacy
πMath
πMakabansa
πGood Manners and Right Conduct -
as institutionalized by Republic Act No.
11476 - GMRC and Values Education
Law
π Number of subjects in the Matatag
Curriculum:
Grades 1 and 2 - five subjects
Grade 3 - six subjects
Grades 4 to 10 - eight subjects
with integration of Values Education
subject and peace concepts into the
grade levels
π Matatag Curriculum is set to
be implemented in SY 2024 -
2025 for Kindergarten, Grades 1,
4 and 7
π Its pilot implementation in various
regions of the country will begin
on September 25, 2023.
