Sample Project Proposal 4: Construction of the Languages Park of __________________

PROJECT TITLE: Construction of the Languages Park of  __________________

PROJECT SUMMARY:

 The purpose and goal of building a Languages Park is the development of the knowledge and skills of the learners in the three languages: Mother Tongue, Filipino and English. It is created to provide a place where learning is nurtured by catering to children's interest in reading through a variety of learning materials. We envision a safe and beautiful learning environment where learning can truly grow.

It is with enthusiasm that to concretize our goal, a Languages Park will be constructed. Instead of three separate parks, the plan is to construct only one since the three subject areas all belong to the category Languages. With land space in our school devoted mostly to schoolbuildings, less space is left for other equally essential purposes. Having only one park to cater to three different subject areas is sensible and ideal. We can save on space. It is in this line of thinking that the Languages Park is born.

Funding for the Languages Park will come from stakeholders, donors, and other entities. The initial plan is to begin construction as soon as possible once funds are made available.

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

In the advent of modern technology, the use of cellphones is commonplace among the young generation. Too many times, teachers find it difficult to make pupils read their books because they prefer to tinker on their CPs rather than open their books and read. Many children cannot focus while teachers teach them beginning reading in the primary grades. They would prefer to watch videos rather than sit and take time to study their lessons. It is in the construction of a Languages Park that interest in reading, specifically learning as a whole, is rekindled. With a variety of learning materials like big books, picture books, trivia, wall hangings/posters, puzzles/mazes, interactive games and videos; these varied learning materials of different topics like stories, poems, bugtong/riddles, wise sayings, grammar and idioms, all are found within a beautiful park setting.

To address the school's growing student population, it has adapted shifting of classes. Classrooms are filled with students so space for learning is limited, even remediation is done along corridors where it is not appropriate. A Languages Park can help in these problems. While pupils wait for their shift, they have an exclusive area for quiet study. Teachers, too, can do remediation on the park's chairs and tables scattered around the vicinity. The initial design or lay-out of the park is found in the Appendices.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

The Languages Park aims to:

1. improve reading skills among learners in Sinugbuanong Binisaya, Filipino, and English;

2. increase learners' knowledge of their lessons in MTB, Filipino and English;

3. provide supplementary materials that complement with those in the classrooms;

4. provide an exclusive area for study and remediation to decongest limited space in school; and

5. create a conducive, nurturing environment for learning amidst a safe and beautiful scenery.

PROJECT METHODOLOGY:

It has been an alarming news in the education community with regards the dismal result of Filipino students in an international competition in reading not too long ago. Our department wasted no time in responding to this report. Series of trainings and webinars were in line to address the pressing matter. As teachers in the field, we are mostly affected. Though the result of the competition does not speak of the entire student population of the whole country; nevertheless, finding ways to address it locally became an urgent call.

The Languages Park is a response to the clamor of providing an alternative, aside from the usual classroom setting, in sustaining interest of learners towards subjects such as MTB, Filipino and English. With efforts by the school community of ____________, preliminary work on the park started last ___________. Finding funds was a dilemma. Funds from donors came in trickles. Whenever funds were inadequate, work stopped for awhile then continued whenever it was available. Fortunately, a generous donor in the person of ___________provided the bulk of materials and labor needed for the project. The project saw rigorous work during Brigada Eskwela.

The Languages Park indeed has gone a long way. Now, we have a gift for our beloved students who in time will make utmost use of its resources for their learning growth.
